I have always maintained an ambivalent relationship with WQEDTV, our local public TV station. True its programming was relentlessly Democrat/Liberal, but its local programming-Chris Fenimore's and Nancy Polinski's cooking shows and Rick Sebak's programs about PA reminded me of NJ Public TV which also did local shows geared to the wishes of its listeners.
WQED has, however, revealed itself to be one of those political entities who fire cleaning ladies making minimum wage while keeping on six figure execs who have perqs such as Dusquesne Club memberships. Those outside of PGH will have to imagine how expensive those are. Worse yet, they were not even personally fired by an organization that tries to get us to contribute by stressing that "we" are a family.
In a skit on Laugh In many years ago, Guy Lombardo said, "When I go, I am taking New Years Eve with me."
I guess when Mr. Rogers died, he took the WQED family with him.
