Why I love Sandra Bullock
At the Spiketv awards:
"Let's be honest here, just for a moment. We're all going to be honest, right?" Bullock, 45, told the crowd. "Did I win this for being entertainer of the year, or did I win this because of the spectacular I.E.D. [improvised explosive device] explosion that became my personal life?!"
Once the laughter subsided, she added, "No, it's okay. Because I would do it over again if it was to entertain our troops , and our extraordinary troops deserve something much more than some actress in a tight dress talking about herself."
She also told them, "I would sing, but you've seen enough pain in your lifetime. I would dance -- I'm a pretty good dancer, but as I mentioned, the dress is pretty tight."
Thoughts on the Death of a Recipient of the Medal Of Honor
I was reading the details of the heroism of John William Finn who died on May 27. He won the Medal of Honor at the Battle of Pearl Harbor. He kept shooting at Japanese fighters and bombers despite the fact that he was seriously wounded. Mr. Finn was 100 years old when he died. He was a mamber of the MOH Society. No MOHs have been awarded to living soldiers since the Battle of Mogadishu. When the membership of the MOH Society falls below twenty five, it will disband. This will be too bad for the younger kids. They need all of the heroes they can get. There are ninety living member of the MOH Society. Nineteen are double winners. Consider that. Nineteen men have living men have displayed “courage above and beyond the call of dury” twice!
“Call of Silence” an episode of NCIS is an aide memoire. Charles Durning, an actual WWII hero plays Ernie Yost a MOH winner in the Battle of Iwo Jima. His performance is stellar. The supporting cast is, as usual, excellent, but it is Durning, Mark Harmon, and Michael Weatherly who make the episode.

Rasmussen Reports
Forty-nine percent (49%) of U.S. voters believe pro-Palestinian activists on the Gaza-bound aid ships raided by Israeli forces are to blame for the deaths that resulted in the high-profile incident.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 19% of voters think the Israelis are to blame. Thirty-two percent (32%) more are not sure.

A taxi driver who went on the rampage along the coast of West Cumbria today killed at least 12 people — injuring 25 others, three critically — before taking his own life, police said tonight.

The Republicans Should Worry
Mickey Kaus who is running for the Democrat nomination against Barbara Boxer in CA says in a recent interview that he WILL accept a job from the Obama Administration to drop out of the race, but only one of three.
First: Director of ICE, so he can build the real wall in the southwest.
Two: A seat on the NLRB so that he can vote against anti-democratic union ideas, i.e. elimination of the secret ballot in Union elections.
Three: job in the Department of Education, where he could pressure the Obama administration into writing a scathing report explaining why opposition to reform from California teachers' unions cost the state $700 million in "Race to the Top" ... Oh wait. Sorry. They already wrote that report.
He then says that he is only kidding, he prefers to run. Too bad he would be the best appointment the president has made.

Kelly Ann Pidgeon went to this site so I tried it. TMI:
You are 22926 days old.
That's 3275 weeks and 1 days.
Which is 62 years and 280 days, including 16 leap years*.
(= 62 years, 40 weeks and 0 days.)
Therefore, you are 62.8 years old.
You were born on a Saturday, your last birthday was a Sunday
and your next one will be on a Monday.

Below is a poem written in 1981 by LTCD. Kelly Strong USCG(Ret.) He was in high school when he wrote the poem.
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE
I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze;
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform,
So young, so tall, so proud;
With hair cut square and eyes alert,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought... how many men like him
Had fallen through the years?
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves
No, Freedom is not Free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still;
I listened to the bugler play,
And felt a sudden chill;
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend;
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands.
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea,
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No. Freedom is not Free!

Gay Patriot gets it.
I was reading the Gay Patriot blog. He got it. Much of the conservative and practically all of the religious opposition to "gay Marriage" has nothing to do with hatred of homosexuals. It has everything to do with the fact that marriage is a religious institution. We Catholics call it a Sacrament. Civil Partnerships granting a gay couple the legal rights of the married to own property, make medical decisions for each other, etc. fine. Not Marriage because the day will come when some wacknut liberal judge will order a church to perform a wedding ceremony for a gay couple hence and , therefore, no gay "Marriage".

" Consider this fact: In 2009, we lost 121,000 private-sector jobs in New Jersey, while the municipal and school board payrolls grew by 11,300 jobs. The private sector shrank ... while the government grew. That's exactly backwards from how it's supposed to be."

Taylor Swift
from politicoclick:
Singer Taylor Swift performed two concerts in Washington this week in front of screaming fans, but she spent her day Wednesday quietly visiting with wounded soldiers.
The 20-year-old country pop sensation spent three hours visiting with soldiers and their families in the Military Advanced Training Center at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland. Joined by her band and her mother, Swift signed 8x10 photographs of herself for daughters and sons of the wounded veterans. As she left the hospital, she toted a USO t-shirt.

"When I was a youngster, a popular putdown was 'If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?' But when people like Michael Moore, Michael Bloomberg and George Soros, say so many really dumb things, it seems a more appropriate question would be, 'If you're so rich, why aren't you smart?'" --columnist Burt Prelutsky

I have been writing on facebook all day. It started with a comment about Glenn Beck but spread. When I found myself writing this:
The three religions that claim the land as holy all have the books in common.
The Hieronomaic Vulgate is around 1600 years old and was taken from older sources. The Koran is in fact the newest of the bunch.
It has been Israeli land since before the Thutmosides ruled in Egypt. Why should they give it up. The US is not going to give up the land because we are stronger than they. If left alone the Israeli's are stronger than their opponents. Only US military action can impose a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. I suppose the government hopes that the Iranians will take care of the Israelis with Nuclear, Chemical, or Biologic weapons. No Jews, no problems with the med-east.
Unfortunately, the radicals of the religion of peace hate the great Satan as much as they do Israel, so we will have sold out the jews for no safety from al-Quaeda or the Taliban, or Hamas, or Hezbollah.
I realized that I had fallen down the rabbit hole.So I stopped.

Dear God our Father,
Your word tells us, “Unless the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build. Unless the LORD guard the city, in vain does the guard keep watch” (Psalm 127:1).
Thank You for those who have guarded not only our cities, but our country, allies, and many other communities from unjust and unprincipled aggressors. On this Memorial Day, with a solemn and sacred spirit, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women in our Armed Forces who gave up their lives for their fellow Americans at home and abroad. Many were young and many were married, with their loved ones praying for them back home; but they were each fighting to protect the freedom we enjoy when they were called to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Dear God, please bless our heroes and heroines with Your mercy, grace, and peace. Bless also their families and friends. May Your perpetual light shine upon them; and may their souls and the souls of all our faithful departed rest in peace. In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Dennis Hopper
Dennis Hopper has died. His career spanned the “golden years” of live television to today. He costarred with some of the legends of Hollywood, John Wayne, James Dean, and Paul Newman. He received an Oscar nomination for “Hoosiers”. He directed himself and was directed by Coppola, Corman, and Lynch. He was an original. A little gin-soaked but original nonetheless.

Our Friends in Germany
Not to let our japanese Allies off the hook.

Dr. Evil, Ishii Shiro conducted thousands of "experiments" on the inhabitants of and prisoners brought to Harbin China. Because he had been granted immunity by the occupation government, he was in no danger after and died in 1967 of cancer.
{lease note that I have not even mentioned the "Rape of Nanking" or the Bataan Death March. Let us apologize to the poor interned enemy aliens who supported this regime.

A more modern view
Women of Israel
This is from the Challoner-Rheims edition, so the spelling is bizarre, 1 Judges, Chapter Four:
4 And there was at that time Debbora a prophetess the wife of Lapidoth, who judged the people,
5 And she sat under a palm tree, which was called by her name, between Rama and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for all judgment.

5 And she sat under a palm tree, which was called by her name, between Rama and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for all judgment.
John the Evangelist: The Disciple whom Jesus Loved
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Ayn Rand was Wrong
Possibly because she was not an American by birth, she accepted the common summary of Robin Hood's life as, "He took from the rich and gave to the poor." At least that is how Ragnar Danneskjöld summarizes him in his meeting with Hank Reardon. This is a common statement, but it is false. What Hood did was take from those who misused the taxes they collected from the people. Prince John, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Sire Guy of Gisbourne, and the Abbot of the Blackfriars, all misuse taxpayer money. Hood has no problem with the collection of Richard the Lionheart's ransome as that is a legitimate use of public funds, at least it was in the twelfth century. Personal enrichment is not, so Hood confiscates it and returns it to the people. He also protects, as far as he is able the people from brutal methods of tax collection

Unhappy Thought But Helpful
Ephesians 6:10-12:
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might, put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places".

Happy Thought
Whatever else history may say about me when I'm gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty's lamp guiding your steps and opportunity's arm steadying your way." -- Ronald Reagan

The 9/11 Mosque
A new structure is set to rise at Ground Zero in New York City. However, it's not a memorial to the thousands brutally murdered there in 2001 by Islamic extremists, and it's not an office building to house revitalized American business. No, it's a mosque. Writing for Family Security Matters, Gary Adelman notes that the Community Board of Lower Manhattan unanimously approved the construction of a 13-story, $100 million mosque and community center just two blocks from where the World Trade Center stood. Beyond boasting questionable funding sources, the project -- proposed by the American Society for Muslim Advancement (ASMA) and its sister organization, the Cordoba Initiative -- shows complete disregard for the lives taken on September 11, and for those left behind.
Rosemary Cain, whose firefighter son George Cain was killed on 9/11, described the project as "a slap in the face. I think it's despicable. That's sacred ground. How could anybody give them permission to build a mosque there? It tarnishes the area." Retired FDNY Deputy Chief Jim Riches, who son Jim -- also a firefighter -- died in the attacks, stated, "I realize it's not all of them, but I don't want to have to go down to a memorial where my son died on 9/11 and look at a mosque. If you ask me, it's a religion of hate."
Adelman asks, "Have we lost our minds so much that we have moved to erecting monuments to perpetrators and not victims?" With this project, it seems, we have our answer.

On the Necessity of Punctuation
A panda walked into a cafe. He ordered a sandwich, ate it, then pulled out a gun and shot the waiter. 'Why?' groaned the injured man. The panda tossed him a badly punctuated wildlife manual. The waiter found an explanation. 'Panda,' ran the entry for his assailant. 'Large black and white mammal native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.
